2007 Schedule

We are planning four type of events tailored to fit a variety of riders:

  1. Occasional road events (say 6-8 per year) where we set up a formal route, usually with a destination in mind, e.g., Holtsville Ecology Center, the beach, a favorite local ice cream shop, etc.  These events will take planning and coordination, i.e., the consideration of alternate routes/distances to accommodate all, provide rest stop refreshments, and stops to assure road safety.

  2. Mountain biking events at Rocky Point or one of the State Parks.

  3. Training events - these events will occur on a regular basis (1-2X per week) and will be tailored to those interested in gradual physical conditioning over the spring-fall-summer of this year.  These events will start with short rides and gradually increase in length throughout the season.  No significant planning here, just show up, ride, and reap the rewards of exercise.

  4. Challenge events and/or outside events, where those interested in the challenge of a longer ride, e.g., ride east and return by train, or entry in an event like the "Easter Long Island Across-the Forks Tour" sponsored by an outside organization such as the Suffolk Bicycle Riders Association or the LI Bicycle Club.

Ministry Services / Needs / Goals

  1. Need - we need bicycle donations (condition not important). SERVICE - a few of us will refurbish the bikes, so the non-owners that want to ride can use these bikes. If anyone has a bike they're not using or knows of a family member or friend that has one, please contact Carmine Fergo, Frank Donato, Jim Yee or Mike IarocciWe're looking to complete this phase by the end of February.

  2. GOAL - the ministry will provide outreach to the local community via advertisement to the neighbors, and friends of ours about the events.

  3. HELP - we need a few more volunteers to help with planning the organizational goals.  A few more meetings are planned before the season starts, so if anyone is interested in helping with the ministry foundation, please contact us.

  4. NEED - the occasional ride event requires assigned riders to act as road group leaders/followers, rest stop coordinators, event coordinators (advertising), and bike repairers.

Pray that we are successful in organizing this ministry, and specifically that we promote fellowship and
perhaps bring others to Christ through it.
